Ken Fallin’s Broadway: Make Me Gorgeous’s Wade McCollum

Published

on

Attending the opening of Make Me Gorgeous starring the fabulous Wade McCollum as Kenneth/Kate Marlowe inspired this caricature.

Make Me Gorgeous  is the reworking of the original script, Mr. Madam by donnie that premiered at triangle in June 2022.

Make Me Gorgeous is a one-person show based upon a true story, taken from several books by Kenneth aka Kate Marlowe. Kenneth has been described as one of the gayest and most openly homosexual personalities of the late 50s and early 60s. He went from a 1940s/1950s drag performer to being a madam (for Hollywood gays), to being the author of several books, and at the age of 50 began transitioning, soon after marrying a man in prison. You just cannot make this stuff up

It now has a new name, but the same playwright and actor now are bringing the story to the stage at Playhouse 46th at St Luke’s, 308 W 46th Street. With the encouragement of the Tony Award-winning playwright of “Memphis” Joe DiPietro and many others, the show will have a limited run off-Broadway run until December 31, 2023.

Ken Fallin began his career creating caricature drawings for the long-running satirical revue, “Forbidden Broadway”. Ken’s illustrations have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, In Style Magazine, The New Yorker , The Hollywood Reporter, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post, Politico, and PLAYBILL Ken has produced illustrations for HBO, Showtime, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Metropolitan Opera, American Express, Belvedere Vodka, CBS News, Walt Disney Productions, The Peter Norton Foundation, and Microsoft. An Emmy nomination was received for Ken’s work on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” TV ad . Ken has several posters in the permanent poster collection of London’s Victoria & Albert Museum. Original pen and ink drawings now hang in the venerable Players Club, as well as a permanent exhibit at New World Stages. Ken has chronicled the New York Theatre scene for over ten years in various publications and websites Private collectors of Ken’s work include Angela Lansbury, Harold Prince, Darren Criss, Matthew Broderick, Bradley Cooper, Barbra Streisand, Bernadette Peters, Sarah Paulson, Frank Langella, Sir Patrick Stewart, Warren Buffett, and Sir Cameron Mackintosh.
