La La Land Gets Record 14 Oscar Nominations

La La Land Gets Record 14 Oscar Nominations

The 89th Academy Awards was announced early Tuesday morning. It is no big surprise that La La Land earned  14 nominations. It goes into the record book with “Titanic” and “All About Eve” for the most nominations. Best director for Damien Chazelle, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, and two in one category, best song. Congratulations Pasek and Paul who go up against Lin Manuel Miranda.

Moonlight, got eight nods, including best picture, director (Barry Jenkins) and supporting awards for Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris. Tied with Moonlight is Arrival, which did not nominate Amy Adams.

Also snubbed were Tom Hanks, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Taraji P. Henson, Hugh Grant and Finding Dory.

Thrillingly Viggo Mortensen was nominated for Captain Fantastic.

Lion, Manchester by the Sea and Hacksaw Ridge, all got six nodes. The most telling nomination was for Mel Gibson nod for  his direction of Hacksaw Ridge. Guess he’s finally out of the dog house in Hollywood.

Watch The Oscars, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, airs Feb. 26 at 8:30 p.m. on ABC.
