Meet The Playwrights of NY SummerFest: Andrew Matthews

Moments…An Evening with Bill W was originally conceived and performed by Bill McNiff in 1990. The story is Bill’s own account of his drinking and recovery from alcoholism taken from the book Alcoholics Anonymous (Big Book), Pass it On, Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions and Bill’s own recorded words. 

Andrew Matthews has performed Off Broadway in the Shotgun Theater Festival, Mid Town Theater Festival, the 8-minute Madness Theater Festival, Fresh Fruit Festival, The Set NYC, 12 Steps: The Musical, Black Angels Over Tuskegee, Theater for the New City and The American Actors Theater. Most recently as part of the United Solo Festival in NYC on Theater Row which is largest Solo Festival in the world!

Film credits include In Transit as Officer LaDue, Savior as Bill, Indifferent Women as the ex-husband, The Mayor and God in Lucifer’s Bride Part One and Two respectively.

Andrew Matthews has been a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor in New York State since 1990 and has worked in many different modalities including inpatient, outpatient, diversion program in addition to supervising and training staff. 

Moments…An Evening with Bill W has been performed by Andrew Matthews since 2011 at The Wilson House, Stepping Stones, The International Convention in Atlanta, ICYPAA in St. Louis and New England, Addiction Conferences in St. Louis and Anaheim, 12 step events, treatment programs, professional conferences and church basements.

The setting is NYC in 1950 at the Kip’s Bay AA Group first anniversary celebration shortly after the passing of Dr. Bob the other co-founder of AA.

Moments…An Evening with Bill W: NY Summerfest at at the Hudson Guild Theater, 441 West 26th Street July 11 and 12th at 6:15 p.m. and July 14 at 9 p.m.

NY Summerfest

Suzanna, co-owns and publishes the newspaper Times Square Chronicles or T2C. At one point a working actress, she has performed in numerous productions in film, TV, cabaret and theatre. She has performed at The New Orleans Jazz festival, The United Nations and Carnegie Hall. Currently she has a screenplay in the works, which she developed with her mentor and friend the late Arthur Herzog. She was the Broadway Informer on the all access cable TV Show “The New Yorkers,” soon to be “The Tourist Channel.” email: suzanna@t2conline.com
