Meet The Playwrights of NY SummerFest: Emma Federer

Emma Federer is proud to be a 2018 winner of the New South Young Playwrights Festival in Atlanta, Georgia where her One-act, The Homeless and the Hopefull, was produced and preformed. She is proud to have her first full length show, Bermuda Triangle, premieres in the 2019 NY Summerfest Festival.

Emma Federer compares her likeness to that of Batman. By day, she “Clark Kents” around (glasses and all) as a studious junior of Fordham Lincoln Center as a Communications and Cultures Major. By night, she “Batmans” around in a makeshift cape (probably borrowed from her roommate’s sheets) fighting off crime (the small injustices of the world such as hurt feelings) through the only form of combat she is (semi)trained in: theatre.

Emma Federer is the face behind the mask of the brilliant new show, Bermuda Triangle. Many recall the disorienting nature of college and the wonky relationships that come with it, but few endure it and leave unscathed. Bermuda Triangle is play that explores the perfect storm of loneliness, miscommunication, and deception that transports three developing young adults into an unfamiliar world of hurt. The show explores Emma’s sidekicks against injustice aka the characters of Chicago, the Lonely Boy, Arizona, the Not Like Other Girls Girl, and Georgia, the Naïve Princess Who Just Wants To Go Home. Find out how they interact in Bermuda Triangle.

Afterhaving a bad experience of loneliness that fed into a whirlwind (or Bermuda Triangle) of hurt, Emma shared her stories with other women and recognized a pattern of women, specifically, being used in times of great loneliness. She’s made it her mission to raise women up with this production with a majority female POC cast/crew and commissioning female artists to interpret the show through visual art (which you can check out on their Instagram, Twitter, and Facebooks!) With her show as her chosen weapon, Emma is ready to take on this scary adult world of time management, production scheduling, and theatre festivals.

Bermuda Triangle: Hudson Guild Theatre: June 24th, 28th, and 29th.
