Meet the Playwrights of Summerfest: Cody Buser

Cody BuserCody Buser has been writing since middle school, honing his skills at making people cry with gut-wrenching emotion, or laugh with side-splitting humor. But it wasn’t until his last semester of college he focused on writing for the stage. Since then, he has dedicated himself to building roots in the theater and growing his career as a playwright/director. In 2014 Cody self-produced his first original play For a Life at Sebsi Studios (Saugerties, NY), which then went on to be accepted in the 2016 NY Summerfest at the Hudson Guild Theater (Chelsea, NY). The following year, Cody founded Second to the Right Productions, mixing his love for theater with others and working to bring new plays to the public.

His newest play, Let’s Dig Up Dad!, is premiering this July at the NY Summerfest. Let’s Dig Up Dad! (LDUD!) follows three estranged siblings who decide to dig up their deceased father to recover the 8-million-dollar inheritance he took to the grave. This comedy focuses on the family dynamic and the secrets we keep, whether to protect ourselves or our loved ones. When it comes to family, nothing is truly off limits.

Cody earned his B.A. in Creative Writing at SUNY New Paltz where his ten-minute-play, For a Life was published in the school’s annual Stonesthrow Review Literary Journal. He later extended For a Life into a full length play that focused on the human experience, from a non-human point of view.

LDUD! is running at the Hudson Guild Theater July 18th, 19th, and 22nd. For more information about Cody, his plays, or Second to the Right Productions, you can visit his website,
