Music to Our Ears

Music to Our Ears

This past year has taught us that no matter what we will have music. The sounds that provoke our thoughts and bring joy to our minds cannot be denied.

Here are some of our favorite music makers this month:

We are very much in love in New York City with Sing for Hope. The organization uplifts lives by unleashing creativity virtually and in-person for under-resourced schools, healthcare facilities, refugee camps, transit hubs, and public spaces. Their work ranges from arts workshops that improve academics for at-risk students, to specialized music programs that enhance cognition for dementia patients, to arts interventions that facilitate integration for refugee youth, to the Sing for Hope Pianos that unite communities in our world’s public spaces.

SFH is an ‘artists’ peace corps’ that reaches millions of people annually in the home-base of New York. Guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals and in partnership with hundreds of community-based organizations and thousands of artist partners, SFH uses the creative arts for healing, learning, and social cohesion. Currently they are playing in the city and performing to lift spirits. They even are collaborating with the likes of Mostly Modern Projects, which supports the performance and creation of music by living composers through concerts and educational outreach initiatives. All together it is just sweet, sweet music.

And, for music lovers all over HiNOTE is a new music-first platform that connects well-known musical talent with consumers to deliver personalized video messages and songs to loved ones. This new celebrity video service allows users to bring a favorite artist right to their friend’s inbox this Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, for birthdays and beyond. HiNOTE taps into the tradition of connecting popular songs with memorable moments at a time when most can’t attend live events and are looking for creative ways to connect with friends.

They currently feature more than 40 artists who will take personal requests from users. New talent is being added weekly. HiNOTE currently lists artists that range from Grammy Award-winners to hip-hop icons to emerging talent with loyal followings. Many of the featured songs are well-known hits from the 90s to the 2000s.

Fans can browse a list of musical artists, ranging from Lisa Loeb to Walk Off the Earth to Montell Jordan  —and request personalized video messages for a low cost that supports the arts. It’s a perfect gift for a loved one, or a way to personally connect with your favorite artists and share emotions in a new format. It also provides another avenue for artists sidelined from performing in public to connect with their audience.

Here is to music making our world a special place to be in 2021 and beyond.
