My View: No Shortage Of Tony & Grammy Winners in Cafe Carlyle Last Night

Duncan Sheik  the Grammy and Tony Award-winning artist made his Cafe Carlyle debut last night.  Sheik launched his career in 1996 with his Grammy nominated self-titled debut album. Sheik is the composer for the critically acclaimed musical Spring Awakening, which went on to win eight Tony Awards in 2007, including awards for Best Orchestrations and Best Original Score. The album earned Sheik a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.

There wasn’t a shortage of Award Winners in the Cafe Carlyle audience enjoying Duncan’s show.  TV & Stage Actress Tamara Tunie who has a bunch of them for her performances in As The World Turns and Law and Order shared a table with Actress Ellen Dolan who was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress.  Tunie was recently the recipient of A Berkshire Theatre Award (Berkie) for her performance in “American Son” at Barrington Stage Co. Tony Nominated actor Peter Gallagher was joyfully watching his daughter Kathryn Gallagher share some vocals with Duncan Sheik.

Grammy Award Winner Billy Stritch was at a table with Award Winning entertainer Jim Caruso.  The Duo will be in their Sunday home Bemelmans Bar at The Carlyle in November & December.

Three timeTony Award Winning producer and Variety Show Host Jamie deRoy brought her guest Sophia Anne Caruso (no relation to Jim) who was in Duncan Sheik’s “The Secret Life of Bees” at Vassar College.

Sheik has released multiple albums, most recently Legerdemain in 2015 and American Psycho: Original London Cast Recording. The latter, with lyrics and music written by Sheik, premiered on Broadway in 2016 after a sold-out London run. He is currently working on several theatre projects including Secret Life of Bees and Because of Winn Dixie. Sheik is also the owner of Sneaky Studios in Garrison, NY.
