My View: Tony Bennett Didn’t Like His Back Up Singers And Took A Pass

My View: Tony Bennett Didn’t Like His Back Up Singers And Took A Pass

Only five entertainers have received the Friars Icon Entertainment Award – Tony Bennett is now the 6th.

Douglas Fairbanks, Frank Sinatra, Cary Gray, Tom Cruise, and Robert De Niro have been awarded the Friars Club’s most prestigious accolade, the Entertainment Icon Award. Tony Bennett joined that group at a Friars Gala at the Sheraton Hotel on June 20th. It was an exciting evening of entertainment that could only happen at the Friars Club. Mr. Bennett is 90, and at the conclusion, the orchestra appropriately struck up “The Best Is Yet To Come”.  Tony looked at Robert Di Niro and Larry King struggling to sing the tune and wisely decided to just wave to the cheering crowd. The best always happens at the Friars Club.

Alvin Malnik was awarded the Icon Award For Philanthropy and Stephen Weintraub received the Friar Of The Year Award.
