National Board of Review Honors Top Films at Annual Gala

Awards season is in full swing as the best of 2018 films are being honored for all their glory.

New York City was buzzing with glitz and glamour last night as The National Board of Review hosted its annual awards dinner at Ciprinai 42nd Street.

Filmmakers and stars were celebrated in categories that include Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Actress, Best Ensemble, Best Original and Adapted Screenplay, Breakthrough Performance, Best Documentary, and Directorial Debut, as well as signature honors such as the Freedom of Expression, and the William K. Everson Film History Award.

From the silver screen to streaming services there were moments of sheer awe this past season for the future of film, as well as an appreciation for the past.

“Finishing this film (“The Other Side of the Wind”) after such a long journey and to be honored by the National Board of review just doesn’t get much better than this,” said mega producer Frank Marshall who was accepting the William K. Everson Film History award. “Orson Welles continues to inspire and amaze us. He was ahead of his time then and he is still ahead of his time…It is so modern. It’s exciting and challenging.”

The exhilaration of cinema was felt throughout the glorious night. The event hosted by Willie Geist honored Best Director recipient, Bradley Cooper, Best Actor recipient, Viggo Mortensen, Best Actress recipient, Lady Gaga, Best Supporting Actor recipient, Sam Elliott, Best Supporting Actress recipient, Regina King, Best Screenplay recipient, Paul Schrader, Best Adapted Screenplay recipients, Barry Jenkins, Best Breakthrough Performance recipient, Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie, Best Directorial Debut recipient Bo Burnham, Best Animated Feature recipient, Brad Bird, Best Film recipient Peter Farrelly, Best Foreign Language Film recipient Pawel Pawlikowski, Best Ensemble recipients Awkwafina, Gemma Chan, Constance Wu, and Michelle Yeoh, and William K.
