“Natural” Essential Oil and Other Fragrance Products: Explained

“Natural” Essential Oil and Other Fragrance Products: Explained

Essential oil and fragrance products are the latest trends in the beauty and self- care field. But at this point, they’re more than a trend, they’re a lifestyle. What’s best about them though, is that they’re absolutely natural and are a product of Mother Nature. The remedies extracted in the essential oils are found in plants and today, we refer to this process as aromatherapy.

So, let’s take a look at the essential oils in more detail. For example, according to Elements Bath and Body, the term “natural” is tossed around often in advertising as though it really means something. In reality, it is nothing more than a marketing term. Most “natural” products, true soap and olive oil, for example, in one way or another, contain some chemical compounds – but this doesn’t make them unhealthy. Everything on earth is made from chemicals and scare tactics that stress over these chemicals shouldn’t scare and make us paranoid. Medications must be specifically designed to be the right molecular size to be able to cross the skin barrier.

So, what should we strive for?

Though with that said, that doesn’t mean there are harmful chemicals and beneficial ones. It just means that the manufacturing process is important and that companies should try to incorporate less harmful ingredients, while still preserving the benefits and the beauty of the said product. At the end of the day, it’s all about combining many elements that work and go together, to create something beneficial for our skin – its’ all pure chemistry.

It’s important to stay close to nature with fragrance products and we shouldn’t be afraid of the word “chemical”. Most customers tend to prioritize “handmade” soaps over synthesized ones, but that doesn’t mean the handmade ones can’t be made with extra chemical ingredients as well.

Future trends

On the bright side, one of the biggest beauty product trends for 2018 is the production of cleaner, safer products. The term “clean” is different from the above-mentioned term “natural”. The difference is that clean product is free of harmful ingredients, including silicones, parabens and more. Many natural brands claim to be “natural” but aren’t really “clean” – so, you should know what you’re getting into when buying a fragrance product.

The wellness movement is slowly growing and we’re likely to see a bigger demand for beauty products that are clean and healthy. The beauty and the fragrance industry is a very tricky one. There are a lot of buzzwords thrown around that don’t mean anything at the end of the day. If you want to be ahead of the trend, you should take some time to know the difference and learn what the chemicals mean. Don’t be fooled by the “natural” marketing claims either, because most essential oils and related products include synergistic ingredients that work as preservatives. And the essential oils themselves extracted from the plants are also made up of assortments that consist of other chemicals.
