New Construction Coming to New York City

New Construction Coming to New York City

New York City is home to some truly spectacular buildings and skyscrapers. It has the most impressive skyline in North America and one of the best ones on the planet. In fact, the city has the second highest number of skyscrapers of any city in the world. Add that to the thousands of high rises in the city, and you have a very impressive looking skyline.

However, despite all of these amazing buildings, there is always more construction to be completed. In fact, despite its already-plentiful building count, the construction industry in New York City is continually growing. In fact, construction spending in 2018 in the Big Apple nearly reached $62 billion. As a result, there are always new buildings being erected in New York City. This massive growth and size of the industry affect many businesses (both locally and nationally), such as suppliers of caterpillar parts like Costex.

So just what types of buildings are being built in New York City? While the city is full of new and proposed construction projects, we’re going to take a look at new construction around Times Square in particular. Times Square is one of the largest tourist destinations on the planet and is constantly buzzing with action. So without any further ado, let’s learn about some new and upcoming large construction projects in Times Square.

TSX Broadway

While Times Square is full of buildings and screens to draw the attention of the public, one could soon put them all to shame. Construction has begun on the TSX Broadway, which will be a 46-story tall building full of shopping, accommodations, and entertainment. However, the most exciting thing about this structure is actually the outside.

There are plans to build LED right in the building, so the structure can essentially serve as a 46-story billboard. But in addition to serving as one of the best spots for advertising in Times Square, a platform stage will come out of the sign. This will be a permanent outdoor stage for all different kinds of acts. We are still a few years away from seeing this become a reality, as construction likely won’t be finished until 2022. The entire project is expected to cost around $2.5 billion.

Hard Rock Hotel

The country is home to numerous Hard Rock Hotels, but none have called New York City home, until now. Work has begun on the city’s first Hard Rock Hotel as they continue their expansion into the Northeast USA. The hotel will be 35-stories high and offer nearly 500 rooms. In addition to being a hotel, the building will also pay homage to music.

There will be several live events held there, and there will be plenty of music memorabilia on display, not unlike a museum. The building will also feature a “rock gym,” a terrace, a rooftop lounge and more. While it was originally planned to be open in late spring of 2019, there is currently no finalized date for when the new hotel in Times Square will open.

One Vanderbilt

The One Vanderbilt is a skyscraper being built right beside the Grand Central Terminal. Sure, this project isn’t being built right in Times Square but is right next door. Once complete, this building will be among the tallest in the entire city. And in a city with so many huge buildings, that is pretty impressive.

The One Vanderbilt, which will be completed sometime in 2020, will feature 67 floors, 1.6 million square feet of space and a spire that will reach over 1,400 feet. The building will cost nearly $3.5 billion to build and despite not even being built yet, the building has over half of its space leased already. Once complete, it will surely be one of the most impressive buildings in a city full of them.

Hopefully, this article has helped you learn a little more about some of the new construction coming to New York City.
