New York City’s College Football team, The Scarlet Knights of Rutgers University, are ready to continue the tradition that began on The Banks 150 years ago as they host U Mass Friday August 30, 2019 with kickoff scheduled for 7:15 pm. Click here for full season schedule and ticket information.

Realizing that some readers may question how anyone could label Rutgers Scarlet Knights as NYC’s College Football team when they play in Piscataway for the State University of NJ allow me to explain. First, they are the closest NCAA Division 1 football team to NYC at approximately 40 miles away. West Point sits further away and the other two Division 1 teams located in NY State don’t even come close to being located near NYC, Syracuse at 250 miles and University of Buffalo at almost 400 miles away are very distance 2nd and 3rd respectively. Second, if the NFL allows The New York Giants and The New York Jets to claim New York as their home turf when they both actually play all home games well outside of NYC, in the Meadowlands of New Jersey, then it would naturally follow that Rutgers lay claim to being NYC’s College Football Team. Finally, look no further than the fact the iconic glass steps located in the Heart of Times Square were designed in Rutgers schools color. The Scarlet Knights are a member of B1G – Big Ten College Football Conference. Click here for B1G info.

Rutgers is The Birthplace of College Football. 2019 marks the 150th anniversary of Rutgers Football. The sport was born in New Jersey when Rutgers and its neighbor, Princeton, played the first game of intercollegiate football on November 6, 1869 on a plot of ground where the present-day Rutgers gymnasium now stands in New Brunswick. Rutgers won that first game, 6-4. All of College Football will be celebrating this 150 anniversary throughout the upcoming season.
