Oysters and Free Movies at Hudson River Park

Oysters and Free Movies at Hudson River Park

Looking to learn about the natural environment of New York City?

Work alongside Hudson River Park staff to help restore oyster beds, an essential component to the health of the Hudson, and learn first-hand how these bivalves benefit the health of the River!

Did You Know? Oyster reefs once covered more than 220,000 acres of the Hudson River estuary and NYC was the oyster trading capital of the world! Oysters are a keystone species providing habitat for many other marine species, and play an important role in filtering the Hudson River. Unfortunately for many years, oysters have been in decline. With the absence of oysters, water quality goes down and shorelines become more prone to wave damages.

Hudson River Park needs your help to maintain this these oyster reefs by restoring the beds of these vital creatures in the river’s ecosystem!

Shell-ebrate Oysters participants will be guided by Park staff to help create new oyster habitats around Hudson River Park piles, helping to building a more resilient future for the estuary.

Join any Sunday through August 21st, at 4:30 PM, in New York’s Park for Play! Hudson River Park’s Pier 25 (N. Moore St. and the Hudson River in Tribeca)
