Pilates on 5th Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of The Movie Big

Pilates on Fifth (501 Fifth Avenue, Suite 2200, New York, NY 10017)– the Pilates studio owned by former Radio City Rockettes turned fitness experts, Katherine and Kimberly Corp—will celebrate the 30thAnniversary of the movie, “Big,” with an open house—free to the public—on Sunday, July 15, 2018 and Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Visitors can dance—and even master the “Chopsticks” tune—on the larger-than-life piano just like Tom Hank’s character, Josh Baskin, in the movie’s iconic scene at FAO Schwarz.

Katherine and Kimberly Corp took on the title of Big Piano Fitness experts after having artist Remo Saraceni, the creator of the original Big Piano, to create a Big Piano for their studio. He was inspired by the sisters’ interest in creating a fitness activity using the piano that challenged both the body and the brain. The studio’s Big Piano fitness classes – one of many offerings—includes a mix of stretching, strength-building exercises like planks, and agility drills that help tone the obliques and glutes.  Afterwards, photos and videos will provide mementos.

On July 15 and 18 – the same day “Big” will be playing in nearby theaters – guests will be welcomed to the studio to try the Big Piano for themselves. Whether stopping by before or after the special movie screening of “Big” at 2p.m. or 7p.m., or anytime in between, this will be the perfect opportunity to light up the piano keys and even play “Chopsticks” or “Heart and Soul,” just like in the movie. To secure a spot, reservations can be made by emailing info@pilatesonfifth.com, or by calling the studio at 212-687-8885.

Guests can also sign up for instructor led Big Piano fitness experiences  – with 25% off couples experiences and 30% off family experiences from July 1 – 31, 2018.  The Big Piano Experiences can be booked individually, in groups up to 4 people or in a class setting. Classes take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7.p.m. ($40).

Family and friends will laugh, dance, and delight in this fun experience for anyone who wants to
channel their inner child. No musical experience necessary!  For more information on Pilates on Fifth or the Big Piano experiences, visit: pilatesonfifth.com/BigPianoNYC.

Katherine and Kimberly Corp are certified Pilates instructors (PMA-CPT) with additional certifications through ACE, NASM, CARDIOLATES®, SilkSuspension™ and CoreAlign™. They have taught Pilates to the world through their podcasts since 2007, and created a comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training Program, The Pilates Academy International in 2006 to develop confident and competent instructors for the Pilates community.  They currently have over 50 satellite centers worldwide. Their Pilates online workout site, pilatesonfifthonline.com features hundreds of workouts and education videos that stream from any mobile device.

The Pilates On Fifth Studio is located at 501 Fifth Avenue, Suite 2200, New York, NY. Pilates on Fifth is fully equipped with everything needed to get the best possible workout.  It’s available for private Pilates sessions, group classes, physical therapy, massage therapy, and studio rental.
