Put A Smile On Your Kids Faces With These Home-Made Ice Cream Recipes

Put A Smile On Your Kids Faces With These Home-Made Ice Cream Recipes

Everybody savors a scoop of ice cream, even two at times. After all, this cream, soft pile of mush doesn’t go to our stomachs, but directly to our hearts. But going to the ice cream shop or the gelato place frequently after dinner gets inconvenient at one point, especially when your kids crave for it intermittently. One solution to this problem is channeling your inner cook and trying out a few ice cream making techniques and recipes at home. This will not only bring a smile to your kids’ faces, but also provide them with a healthier, non-adulterated version of their favorite dessert.

What You Need

Ice cream making at home primarily requires an ice cream maker, of course. If you do not have one, well, add it to your shopping cart right away. We believe that an ideal ice cream maker should be versatile and not too expensive. Product reviews from sites like dreamscoops/best-ice-cream-gelato-maker provide an endless list of which machine to go forward to make these delicious treats. So once you have your ice cream maker delivered to your home, it’s time to unveil the recipes for you to try.

Here are some of those ice cream recipes you could try at home:

Mint chocolate chip ice cream

This flavor has recently been a personal favorite, and your kids are surely going to love it. The thing about this eternally decadent chocolate flavor is that it can amalgamate with almost any other flavor, be it oranges, berries, or even mint. Needless to say, chocolate and mint make a great combination and putting them together with ice cream is simply going to blow your mind.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 cups of mint leaves, without the stem (or 1 teaspoon of peppermint extract)
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups milk

Directions

  • If you are using mint leaves, put them together with the specified amount of milk and cream and let it steam. Remove off the stove and let it cool for 30 minutes. Repeat the heating process and let it cool for another 15 minutes. This will infuse the mint flavor in the ice cream base.
  • Mix the cream, milk, vanilla extract, salt, sugar, and peppermint extract (only if you are using it in place of the mint leaves) in a bowl and stir thoroughly.
  • Take your ice cream maker and pour the mixture into it. Your ice cream maker model will show instructions about churning and freezing the mixture, which you need to follow.
  • When the ice cream starts churning, add chocolate chips after 10 mins and let the mixture thickens. It will take approximately 30 mins to be churned.
  • Lastly, put the prepared ice cream in a container and pop it in your freezer.

Vanilla ice cream

What is a simpler but heavenly dessert experience than a scoop of the humble vanilla? Vanilla is surely under-rated and overrated at the same time, but it has been thriving for ages, still winning hearts with its classic and delicate flavor. It surely suits our palate. Follow this recipe for the best vanilla ice cream you have ever had.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp cornflour
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 tbsp sugar

Directions

  • Add the milk and cornstarch in a pot, and put it on the stove until it boils and thickens.
  • Add 4 tbsp sugar and let it heat further. Let the mixture cool.
  • In a separate bowl, add the cream, milk mixture and vanilla essence.
  • Now the mixture is ready to churn. Put it in the ice cream maker and let it churn for about 20 to 30 minutes. Once it is ready, transfer it to a container and put it in the freezer.

Salted caramel ice cream

There are certain flavor combinations that might sound odd, but when mixed together, they leave you with a world of flavors. A dash of caramel is a delight for every kid, and the layering of sweet and salty together is ideal for any summer’s day.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup caramel sauce
  • ½ tsp sea salt

Directions

  • Heat the milk and sugar until it is steamed. Do not boil it.
  • Add the sugar in the egg yolks and mix it thoroughly.
  • Add the steamed cream-milk to the egg yolk slowly and keep on stirring.
  • Heat the mixture again until it steams. Keep on stirring and cook the mixture until it stays on your spatula but does not thicken.
  • Strain the mixture through a sieve.
  • Add sea salt, vanilla extract, and the caramel sauce and mix it thoroughly.
  • Put it in your ice cream maker and let it churn for 30 minutes. Transfer it in a container when you think it has thickened enough and put it in the freezer.

Strawberry Basil Ice cream

As summer approaches, you surely want to add a tinge of sourness of the berries in the cold desserts post-dinner. And kids are absolutely crazy about berries. So what is better than combining the most favored strawberries in your ice cream? To add an edge of freshness, we have added some basil in the recipe, which will elevate its flavor. It is a very simple recipe to make at home with the most modest ingredients that can be found at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup strawberries
  • A few basil leaves
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon zest and lemon juice

Directions

  • Pit the top of strawberries and add sugar, lemon and lemon zest. Let it rest for a while.
  • Add strawberries to the other ingredients and put them in a blender to blend.
  • Put the mixture in the ice cream maker and let it churn for 30 minutes. Add it to a container and put it in the freezer.

The lighter and fluffier version of home-made ice cream is definitely going to have your kids’ seal of approval, once they have tried this. Also, it is nice to hear those extra compliments of making a delicacy from scratch (which you are definitely going to rock by the way) and going through so much effort for your loved ones. So what are you waiting for? Go, get going with it already!
