Seth Gelblum, was partner at the law firm of Loeb & Loeb the legal counsel to producers, writers, directors, composers and many theatrical productions over the past 30 years. He chaired the firm’s theatre department. This year he was given a Tony Honor for Excellence in Theatre. Mr Gelblum also recieved a Lifetime Achievement Award from the playwright development workshop New Dramatists, and numerous other accolades throughout his career.
His clients included director Julie Taymor, The Weissler’s, George C Wolfe, The Lion King, Chicago, The Book of Mormon, Angels in America, The Producers and Jersey Boys. He served as chairman of the board of New Dramatists, the premier playwright support organization in the country.
He was also a longtime member of the board of directors of Lawyers for Children, which provided representation of children in family court and in class action litigation. Earlier this year, Seth accepted the “LFC Champion” award in recognition of his legacy of support for Lawyers for Children and the organization’s young clients.
Together with his wife Orren Alperstein, he was also a founding board member and officer of the Canavan Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to the eradication of Canavan disease, a rare and fatal genetic neurological disorder, which took the life of their daughter Morgan in 1997.
He passed away on August 8th at 62 and is survived by his wife Orren, and two children.
A private funeral will be held this week, with a memorial service to take place after Labor Day.
