Summer is in full swing. The weather may be up and down, but the social scene this season is nothing but hot.
Out in the Hamptons, the 14th Annual Hamptons Happening celebrated the achievements and charitable contributions benefitting the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation at Kenneth and Maria Fishel’s Bridgehampton estate. Hosting the most anticipated summer benefit was CBS 2 co-anchor Chris Wragge who helped honor leading industry visionaries including: Chef Honoree Matt Lambert, Executive Chef & Co-owner of The Musket Room and Michelin Star Recipient; Fashion Honoree Ramy Brook Sharp, Founder & Creative Director of Ramy Brook; and Business Honoree Joe Farrell, Founder & President of Farrell Building Company.
Notable attendees included: Dr. Samuel Waxman, Marion Waxman, Chris and Sarah Wragge, Kenneth and Maria Fishel, Chef Matt Lambert, Ramy Brook Sharp, Robert Sharp, and more.
Dancers for Good took place in East Hampton. Their third annual benefit was a great success. The event featured an incredible line-up of dance companies and choreographers to benefit The Actors Fund.
Honorees included multiple Tony winner and this June’s “Special Tony for Lifetime Achievement in Theatre” recipient Chita Rivera, as well as Emmy and Tony Award winner Bebe Neuwirth. Honorary Committee included Alan Cumming and Billy Porter.
This summer, designer Lisa Jackson, whose fans include Vera Wang, Renee Zellweger, Allison Janney, Kelly Preston and Robin Wright, returns to the Hamptons with LJ CROSS, her much sought after fine jewelry collection. Jackson will present Diamonds for the Beach, an exclusive selection luxury rose gold and white gold pieces, available at Jennifer Miller Jewelry in Southampton, New York location.
The line is also sold at the flagship LJ CROSS lifestyle boutique on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, select Saks Fifth Avenue locations, fine jewelers across the country.
More than 45 local businesses are turning yellow for week on a more serious note. Until August 5, people that pass-through Southampton will see two-foot wide yellow statement balloons anchored outside more than 45 stores, including Michael Kors, Blue Mercury, Collette’s Basement, CVS, HSBC and more, symbolizing their support for the Week of Hope.
The Week of Hope is created by Southampton resident Audrey Gruss’ Hope for Depression Research Foundation, a leading non-profit dedicated to fighting depression through research and education. The Week is supported by Southampton Village Mayor Michael Irving, and the Southampton Chamber of Commerce.
In Manhattan, Wendy Williams Hunter and The Hunter Foundation inaugural “Wendy Williams Hunter Birthday Give Back Gala” took place at Hammerstein Ballroom. Celebrity guests included: Mona Scott-Young, Kim Coles, Carla Hall, Remy Ma, Papoose, Yandy Smith, Juju, Don Lemon, Mario, Rosanna Scotto, Baruch Shentov, Lori Stokes, Scott Braun and many more.
The benefit raised funds to build awareness on drug addiction and substance abuse, as well as to support youth who have fallen victim. Additionally, it unveiled a new partnership with Snackpop.com, the parent brand of Cookie Pop and Candy Pop, which will be donating proceeds from every bag sold globally to her foundation as of September 2018. Their brand is known for their Mrs. Fields, Snickers bar and Butterfinger flavor low calorie popcorn.
In a harbinger of early awards buzz for director Björn Runge’s film for Sony Pictures Classics, THE WIFE, A-list celebrities turned out in force at the Silverscreen Theatre at the Pacific Design Center for the red carpet premiere and post event tea, wine, cocktail, and hors d’oeuvres reception for the film.
Guests from the film included: Glenn Close; Jonathan Pryce; Christian Slater; Annie Starke; director Björn Runge; screenwriter Jane Anderson, novelist Meg Wolitzer, who wrote the original book; editor Lena Runge, producers Claudia Bluemhuber and Rosalie Swedlin, and Sony Pictures Classics’ Co-president Michael Barker.

And, coming up this weekend is the 100 Million Strong fundraiser. Runway Rockstars takes place July 28th. The runway will feature models with special needs. Each audience member is considered part of the Fan Club and is encouraged to applaud and cheer on Rockstars from the catwalk to the elaborate reception to follow. Tickets can be found here.
In trendy Soho, LAPALME Magazine is celebrating their Summer Issue with Christine Evangelista (E! The Arrangement alum and co-star of USA Network drama Erase.) and the magazine’s Creative Director/Celerity Stylist Derek Warburton. The VIP invite-only event will be the talk of the town. The fete will be sponsored by Helix Vodka and Icelandic Glacial Water with many surprise guests.

And finally, last night in Williamsburg the launch for Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen’s first music series Playa Sunset Sessions took place at Outpost. DJ Niros and Holt will be kicking off the series with a live set in Playa del Carmen in September.
For the first time in the resort’s three-year history, music will become a focus for 2018 with Playa Sunset Sessions being a first series of the resort’s parlay into cultural programming. Throughout the next year, music curators and other icons will be chosen to provide the soundtrack for the hotel through digital playlists and events.
