It’s winter and we all want to warm up and get comfy with the perfect dinner solution. Look no further than the phenomenal Sweet Chick.
Two locations in New York City (178 Ludlow Street and164 Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn) offer up some of the best comfort dishes you will find on the East Coast. The simple philosophy of great food, a cool vibe, and interesting cocktails at a great price is a truly perfect motto. Whether you are looking for a tantalizing drink or a hearty meal it is all to be found easily under one roof.
Friendly staff and excellent customer service are added bonuses to a visit that highlights an extensive menu of wonderful choices. The classic house specialty of Fried Chicken and Waffles is delightful. Waffles come in Classic, Bacon-Cheddar, Dried Cherry, Rosemary-Mushroom, Walnut-Parmesan or Spiced-Pecan flavors and served with yummy butters of rosemary, lemon butter or honey.
All-American cuisine with a Southern twist is highlighted from starters to entrees that include Mac and Cheese with Gruyere, Fontina, Aged White Cheddar, and Ritz Cracker Crust; a Kale B.L.T. Salad with House Cured Bacon, Tomatoes, Preserved Lemon Vinaigrette; Pan-Roasted Berkshire Pork Chop with Farro Risotto with Pine Nuts and Golden Raisins, Braised Mustard Greens, and Blueberry Pan Jus; and The General with Fried Chicken served with General Tso’s Sauce, Rice and Broccoli Waffle. There are also several vegetarian dishes that are just as pleasing to the palate.
Cocktails on the menu are just as tasty and creative. Favorites include The Sweet Chick made of vodka, triple-sec, watermelon, and lemon; Walking Spanish with Mezcal, yellow Chartreuse, grapefruit, lime juice, and celery bitters; and the So Fresh, So Clean with bourbon, Fernet Branca, cola syrup and lemon juice. Juices are made fresh in house and are mixed with perfection.
What makes Sweet Chick even more special is that proprietors John Seymour and Sam Saleh have created a place of pure joy. Enjoying good food and drink all while in a relaxed venue with music playing that rivals the best of lounges is refreshing and appreciated.
There are now six new off-the-menu items for the season – Gravy on Fries with a Poached Egg, Fried Chicken Biscuit, Chicken Fried Bacon Nuggets, Bacon Mac and Cheese, Waffle Ice-cream Sandwich, and Hard Root Beer Float. The restaurant serves up brunch, weekday brunch, in-between snacks and dinner.
