Tax Day Tips and Freebies

Tax Day falls on Monday, April 18th this year giving you a few extra days to get your documents in order. Here are some tips and tax day freebies available this year:

• Beware of scammers: 
  Tax season is full of frauds trying to take advantage of stressed out and often confused filers. Don’t share your personal identification with anyone you don’t know or trust. Check out Card Hub for a good list of common scams.
• If using tax software, make sure it’s reliable: 
  Good tax software programs request relevant information, provide clear instructions on how to fill out the forms, and provide feedback if an error has been made. TurboTax is one of the best and is offering 18% off through Tax Day.
• Contribute to an IRA if you can: 
  You can still contribute up to $5,500 ($6,500 if you’re 50+) in a tax-deductible and tax-deferred IRA for the 2015 tax year. Just send the contribution by 4/18 and tell the deposit institution that you want it counted for 2015 tax purposes.
