Judith Clurman’s Essential Voices USA begins a series of releases of single recordings called Essential Moments with Essential Voices USA with “The First Noel.” EVUSA will release the following pieces over the next few months: Shawn Crouch’s “Where There Is Sadness, Joy“ (January), Jeremiah Klarman’s “Songs of Peace” ( February), and Judith Clurman’s “Ki HIneih Kachomer” (March). This arrangement of “The First Noel,” for chorus, piano, and cello, was written for Judith Clurman’s Essential Voices USA and recorded by the ensemble in 2017, arranged by David Chase. The chorus is assisted by James Cunningham, piano and Daniel Miller, cello. The New York premier by EVUSA happened at the New York Pops concert December 15 and 16 at Carnegie Hall. The arrangement, which is published as part of Judith Clurman’s Choral Series at Hal Leonard, was recently performed by with the National Symphony and Houston Symphony.
“The First Noel” is a traditional English carol. The carol was first published in 1823, along with several other perennial favorites, including “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.”
Listening to “The First Noel” lifts the soul and brings a sense of spirituality to the Holiday Season. Ms. Clurman has the ability to conduct choral music that appeals to a general audience.
