A swashbuckling musical adventure the likes of which Broadway had never seen before, opened in 1997 to a critically acclaimed three year run on Broadway. Now The Scarlet Pimpernel, with a score by Frank Wildhorn and lyrics and book by Nan Knighton, The Scarlet Pimpernel will enjoy a one-night-only concert revival as part of Manhattan Concert Productions Broadway Series, helmed by two-time Tony nominated director and choreographer Jeff Calhoun February 18, 2019 at 8:00 pm.
A glorious window into 18th century history, the production is based on the iconic 20th century novel by Baroness Orczy and chronicles the political and social turmoil of the French revolution. During the growing tumult of its early years, a mysterious English nobleman known only as The Scarlet Pimpernel saves French aristocrats from the sharp bite of the guillotine. By day and out of disguise, he masquerades as the dandy Sir Percy Blakeney. When he falls for the exquisitely beautiful actress Marguerite St. Just, he becomes involved in a love triangle that endangers his plans to save Louis XVII as well his his masked identity.

Jason Howland(Music Director) will lead this concert performance of The Scarlet Pimpernel featuring a chorus of over 200 singers from across the United States, a stunning professional cast and creative team, and the outstanding New York City Chamber Orchestra.
