Tips To Getting More Bite On Your Next Fishing Trip

Tips To Getting More Bite On Your Next Fishing Trip

Fishing is a really fun way to enjoy the outdoors and spend time in a boat soaking up the summer sun. If you love fishing you will agree that there is nothing better than going out on a fishing trip with you and your friends for the weekend. It can be so exciting to wake up in the morning and have the whole day to fish. The only thing that can ruin a good fishing weekend with your friends is getting no bites. Sometimes fishing can be frustrating, especially when you aren’t actually catching any fish. You may even think that there are no fish in the lake, but maybe you just need to learn a bit more about fishing. If you want to get more bite on your next fishing trip then you will need to remember these simple tips.

Use a Fish Finder

If you are fishing from a boat, one of the best tips I can give you is to invest in a fish finder. It can be difficult to locate fish in a large body of water, but a fish finder will help narrow down your search.  A fish finder is a great piece of fishing equipment that will allow you to locate fish in any body of water. Fishfinders use both GPS and SONAR technology to help determine your position and detect fish in the water column. The GPS system will help track your location in a body of water and the SONAR system will help detect fish. The great thing about using one of the top rated fish finders is that they can collect data on where the fish are and help you make decisions on where to fish based on its calculations. Some of the best fish finders will also allow you to create predetermined routes that connect to your boats trolling motor so that you can spend more time fishing and less time steering your boat. Having a good fish finder will increase your chances of catching more fish because it will allow you to locate fish in the lake and spend more time fishing.

Fish During Dusk and Dawn

If you really want to increase your chances of catching more fish you should consider fishing during dusk and dawn. Studies have shown that fish are more likely to bite in the early hours of the morning and during the late afternoon hours just before it gets dark. They also indicate that fish tend to hold back from feeding during the middle of the day, especially if the weather is hot and sunny. If you try fishing near the time the sun rises and sets you may be able to increase your chances of landing some big fish.

Use Better Baits

One common mistake that fishermen make is using the wrong baits for the species they are targeting. It is important to learn about what baits are best suited for different species of fish. You will want to read up on some fishing magazines or some information online to help you pick out the best bait for each fishing trip. As a general rule, if you are fishing for bass or panfish you will want to use either live bait or small plastic baits. If you are fishing for larger fish like pike, salmon, or walleye you will want to make sure you are using larger spoon lures as they help attract larger fish.

Try Different Reeling Techniques

If you and your friends are still struggling to get a bite you may want to change up your reeling technique. There are different methods for reeling in bait and sometimes the fish just need to see a little different action to get them ready to bite. If you have been reeling your line in slowly you may want to try reeling it in faster as this can sometimes get the fish excited and force them to bite. In other situations like when you are fishing for catfish, you may want to try leaving your bait still as they tend to like eating food that is staying still on the bottom of the lake.  It is important to remember to switch up your retrieval speeds and style to help entice the fish.

If you are looking for ways to help increase your chances of getting the fish to bite make sure you remember these simple tips next time you head out on the water. There is nothing worse than going out for a fishing trip and coming home with nothing to show for it. Remember that having the proper gear like fish finders can help you locate fish and increase your chances of getting a bite. Also, switching up your retrieval technique can help excite the fish and get them ready to bite.
