Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2016 Gala – Jazz and Broadway – celebrated the timeless music of the Great White Way and the profound influence that jazz has had on Broadway throughout history. This one-night-only celebration, hosted by the iconic stage and screen actress Vanessa Williams and anchored by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, will payed homage to top Broadway composers like Scott Joplin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, and Stephen Sondheim. Audiences enjoyed appearances by some of today’s top talents, including Chris Botti, Aaron Diehl, Marilyn Maye, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Norm Lewis, LaChanze, Chita Rivera, Raul Esparza, Christine Ebersole, Tommy Tune, Denzal Sinclaire, National Broadway Chorus, Joel Ross, Russell Hall, Cosimo Fabrizio and Sammy Miller, spirited dance numbers featuring Amber Iman of Shuffle Along, and more. This star-studded show is one of the biggest events in town, and proceeds help to enable thousands of diverse performances, education programs, and resources produced by Jazz at Lincoln Center each year.
