Lupita Nyong’o was among the honorees at Variety’s Power Of Women an event served to highlight the good deeds made by Lupita and other famous individuals to make the world a better place in which to live. The Eclipsed and “12 Years A Slave” star was recognized for her work with Mother Health International, which helps needy pregnant women and children. The playwright of Familure and Eclipsed as well as the star of “The Walking” Dead Danai Gurira, was at attendance. Julianne Moore, designer Vera Wang, ballet dancer Misty Copeland and Fox News journalist Megyn Kelly were also honored. Megan’s contributions towards Childhelp, helped victims of child abuse. Misty Copeland was honored for being a driving force behind Project Plie, the American Ballet Theatre’s initiative aimed to diversify the ballet community within America.
The luncheon was hosted by Billy on the Street star Billy Eichner.
Variety publisher Michelle Sobrino Stearns stated: “We are honored to provide a platform that celebrates the outstanding women in entertainment who support and promote philanthropic causes making the world a better place to live. Power of Women NY is now in its third year in the city and we are excited that once again Lifetime will be joining Variety to fete those individuals who inspire us all to go beyond ourselves.”
The star-studded luncheon presented by Lifetime at Cipriani included Mariska Hargitay, Alyssa Milano, Sutton Foster, Vanessa Hudgens, Neve Campbell, Ellen Burstyn, Kathy Lee and Hoda, among others.
