Why go To DC? Branch Brook Blossoms Just Outside of NYC

Why go To DC? Branch Brook Blossoms Just Outside of NYC

Branch Brook Park located in Newark, NJ, is part of the Essex County Park system, the first and finest county park system in the nation, is also home to countries largest collection of Japanese Cherry Blossom trees hosting more than even Washington DC. The Essex County Parks will be hosting the annual Cherry Blossom Festival starting tomorrow and running through April 14, 2019 with events, races and runs and live performances for the entire family combined with the natural beauty of the trees in perfect bloom. Unfortunately the trees are not cooperating as many of the adults or more mature trees are not yet in bloom. They may pop at any time and normally are only at peek for 10 to 14 days before the flowers fall off giving way to the leaves that provide shade throughout the summer. Having no formal botanical training but being born and raised in beautiful Newark, NJ and having visited yesterday to check the status of the trees, my prediction is that we may see some blossoms by Tuesday of Wednesday of next week at the earliest. For more info on the Cherry Blossom Festival see https://www.essexcountyparks.org/parks/branch-brook-park/calendar/2019-essex-county-cherry-blossom-festival

This fantastic family friendly flora display, one of the most beautiful natural displays in the country, is only a short ride from midtown Manhattan, about an hour by car or public transportation. My recommendation on public transit from NYC would be to take a train to Newark, Penn Station and walk to the lower level and hope the light rail straight to the park. Check back here for more updates on Bloom status.
